Qatar Airways is reducing capacity on its Doha-San Francisco service for Northern Summer 2026.

The reversal of previously expected capacity comes amid network-wide capacity adjustments and in response to demand levels, flagged by aeroroutes.com.

Initially, on its Doha-San Francisco service, Qatar Airways planned to have daily flights offered, but this then shifted to 5 flights a week, a reduction of two flights per week.

The changes were expected to occur on service from 29 March 2026 through 24 October 2026 under the previously filed schedule before additional changes were confirmed in a schedule update.

The Doha-based carrier now intends to further reduce its weekly San Francisco schedule to 4 flights from 6 July 2026, with the Airbus A350-1000 operating the service.

Qatar Airways’ US Network Overview

Qatar Airways maintains a robust network from its hub Doha (DOH) to the United States, despite its commitment to cut services to San Francisco across the Northern summer 2026 season.

The airline serves 11 gateways with either near-daily or full-daily flights, operating the Airbus A350 and Boeing 777 family, configured specifically for these long-haul marathon routes from its home base in the Middle East.

Key routes include service to New York JFK, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Atlanta, complemented by Boston (BOS), Washington (IAD), Dallas (DFW), Seattle (SEA), Miami (MIA), and now-reduced San Francisco (SFO).

Why The US Drives Qatar Airways’ Growth

The US is a cornerstone of Qatar Airways’ global network, as it generates high yields from premium long-haul traffic, which in turn boosts revenue.

With gateways in more than 10 cities, the airline maintains load factors above 85%, allowing it to outpace competitors even during periods when demand softens.

Doha’s hub role connects Americans to 170+ destinations across Asia, Africa, Europe, and beyond, while capturing transit revenue without the U.S. landing-rights issue.

The airline’s QSuite business class across its fleet is also a customer favourite, boosting financial performance and meeting high-seating-capacity customer requirements.

Qatar Airways’ US network is further complemented by the airline’s heavy alliance network, which boosts feeder traffic to more destinations across North America.
