Lufthansa will make further changes to its Airbus A380 operations, with adjusted service from Munich (MUC) across the northern summer 2027 season.
The German flag-carrier is expected to restore service on two Indian routes, giving the aircraft a stronger presence in the North American market.
A380 returns to Denver and even Mumbai
According to the latest schedule changes flagged by Aeroroutes, Lufthansa will deploy the Airbus A380 on a daily service between Munich (MUC) and Denver (DEN) from 4 May 2027, replacing the Airbus A350.
The shift from the A350 to the A380 mirrors what happened during the 2026 summer season, when the quad-engined type operated between these two cities. 2027 will see the same aircraft, but with slightly adjusted timing: previously, the switch came in June and ended in late September.
Away from Denver, Mumbai will also receive the A380 daily from 1 July 2027, with the A350-900 similarly being replaced here. Previously, the airline began flying the aircraft to Mumbai in July 2026, bringing forward the start date for a seasonal launch, and it’ll replicate the same thing next year as well, but another month earlier.
The summer deployments of the A380 in markets that need it most complement the Munich to San Francisco service, where Lufthansa is set to operate a daily Airbus A350-900 flight between 28 March and 2 August 2027, crucially, though, sticking with the A350 instead of a previously planned mixed A380 operation on some of the weekly services.
Lufthansa makes further 2027 capacity changes
With rising operating costs persisting and fuel prices not dropping as anticipated, the new summer filing shows further adjustments across the first quarter of 2027. Previously, the airline identified an opportunity to shift A380 capacity away from the United States and toward Asia.
During the low months of January and February, the A350-900 will replace the A380 on flights from Munich to Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO) for limited periods.
During this period, Lufthansa will shift the Airbus A380 to Bangkok (BKK) from 16 January to 26 February 2027, offering two daily flights with the world’s largest passenger plane.
Further to Bangkok, Mumbai will get a brief taster with the aircraft on five weekly flights between 11 January and 27 February 2027, while Delhi continues to retain the daily A380 service through the winter season.

The adaptability of the Lufthansa schedule represents a shift from typical A380 operations, which have often felt confined to specific markets, with little room for major temporary adjustments given their size and operating costs.
Instead of keeping the A380 in cities during low points, the airline is being proactive, leveraging the aircraft’s renowned capacity and temporarily positioning it in markets that’ll benefit, even if only for two or so months.
Lufthansa’s changes continue as it remains based in Munich and, despite a previously planned retirement during the COVID-19 pandemic, is enjoying a brief resurgence as new deliveries keep being delayed and demand recovers faster than anticipated.
