Embraer believes its E2 solves ongoing delivery issues and backlogs with A320neo and 737 MAX family jets at rival manufacturers.

Embraer could be the solution many airlines aren’t considering, according to its executive, for new narrowbody aircraft orders.

While an aircraft manufacturer will typically attempt to pitch its aircraft to customers to obtain a high market share, Embraer’s executive has a point.

Airbus and Boeing have seen important narrowbody aircraft programs sell out for many years. Analysts argue that popular single-aisle jets like the A320neo and 737 MAX family don’t have many slots until the 2030s.

Ultimately, this presents difficulties for airlines that haven’t already ordered aircraft and need capacity in a shorter timeframe. The leasing market is present for airlines; however, because of the shortage of available slots, even this industry sector is heating up considerably.

The duopoly of Airbus and Boeing has been one several manufacturers have tried to break but haven’t done so successfully. Brazilian plane maker Embraer, however, has enjoyed sustained success in the narrowbody market and has proven itself to produce aircraft worthy of purchasing.

Now, in 2024, the planemaker believes it could be the solution many airlines are looking for when it comes to powering and sourcing new narrowbody aircraft with its E2 series.

Embraer says the E2 is a proven series with fantastic customer satisfaction levels and great economics for airlines that have deployed it. It also has one important advantage over Airbus and Boeing’s alternatives: slots.

Embraer says it has available production slots as early as 2026, something not currently present with Airbus and Boeing alternatives. With the 2024 Farnborough Airshow approaching, the planemaker believes it is well-positioned to increase its backlog and truly gear up for multiple sales to larger airlines.

While the E2 series cannot perform to the same capabilities as the 737 MAX or A320neo, it does allow airlines to tinker with their fleet utilization. Adopting an Embraer aircraft like the E2 can reduce pressure on the Airbus or Boeing narrowbody.

Furthermore, the E2 has proven to operate near enough coast-to-coast missions at airlines such as Porter with attractive no-middle seat configurations. Therefore, airlines could easily find the purpose of an Embraer aircraft while relying on existing jets for other operational needs.
