Easter Jet, a South Korean-based carrier, has confirmed its purchase of additional Boeing 737 MAX jets as it looks to expand in the future.
A purchase for new aircraft comes a matter of days after the airline unveiled prospective growth plans it hoped to achieve. Such a move also followed the airline hitting a total fleet of 15 units.
Steadily developing across recent years, Easter Jet was clear in that it hoped to continue charting a course for growth and serving the demand it had witnessed across its route network.
While the airline strictly relies on the Boeing 737 family, it outlined its hope to reduce the average age, which would be achieved by acquiring the 737 MAX further.
The airline has confirmed that it will purchase 12 additional 737-8 jets, part of the MAX series, and deliver them over the coming years.
Thanks to this purchase and rather rapid delivery, the airline’s fleet will almost double in the next two years, with an expected fleet total reaching 27 aircraft by the end of 2026.
This target will be achieved through the delivery of seven aircraft in 2025 and 2026, plus six more units. However, while this delivery timeframe has been outlined, it is still subject to change.
Unfortunately for customers such as Easter Jet, a lot has changed for planemakers in recent years, and greater struggles have been felt in getting aircraft deliveries on time.
As Boeing’s output has spiralled to record low levels, fresh delays are being felt, making timelines hard to come by. However, Easter Jet will remain optimistic the planemaker will be able to sort this out.
This purchase is a signal of intent for the South Korean company, which believes that the airline is on the right path to continue growing and building upon a successful last couple of years following a restart of operations in March 2023.
