SAS has announced it'll begin daily flights to Atlanta in the United States with its Airbus A330 in June to boost its route network.

SAS has announced the expansion of its upcoming summer 2024 program, including a ninth destination towards North America.

Atlanta Coming

SAS will introduce nonstop service between Copenhagen and Atlanta, often described as the home for SkyTeam once more, a move highlighted through the recent alliance switch.

Service will commence on June 17, 2024, with a daily nonstop flight to be added. SAS says 94 million passengers passed through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in 2022. As a result, this made the airport the busiest and also most efficient.

While passenger operations are a significant focus for the airline when deciding its network, the appeal of cargo transportation is also slated to be another reason for the service launch. The proximity to the Port of Savannah aids this freight transportation. This port is the largest and also fastest-growing container terminal in America.

Breaking Down The Flights

SK929 and SK930 have been the designated flight numbers, with the Airbus A330 slated to operate the service.

Service from Copenhagen will depart at 13:10 with a 19:00 arrival in Atlanta. Meanwhile, departure from Atlanta will occur at 17:10, with arrival in Copenhagen the following day at 1020.

The airline says the service will operate daily for the summer program, but this will change in the winter schedule. The airline says flights will be reduced to 5x weekly, with departures on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Additionally, the airline will make an aircraft swap from the Airbus A330 to the modern Airbus A350.

Comments From Executives

Through an agreement with Delta Air Lines, passengers can continue their journey on other Delta-served destinations out of Atlanta. This development means an expanded offering for SAS passengers, who can look forward to reaching several new and exciting destinations across the Southern USA, Caribbean, and Latin America, all conveniently accessible from Atlanta.

A Strong North American Presence

SAS will offer service to several ports within North America this summer.

  • Atlanta (ATL)
  • New York (EWR & JFK)
  • Chicago (ORD)
  • Boston (BOS)
  • Washington D.C. (IAD)
  • Los Angeles (LAX)
  • San Francisco (SFO)
  • Miami (MIA) until April 07
  • Toronto (YYZ)

The expectation is that all these services will significantly boost traffic for the company while catering to high demand levels.

Alongside a route announcement to Atlanta, SAS says it’ll also increase frequencies for the summer with up to two daily flights now offered to New York JFK. Additionally, this will complement a daily flight towards Newark Liberty from Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen.

Meanwhile, Boston flights will operate daily up from the previous six weekly flights offered. Lastly, a fourth weekly flight will be added to Toronto as part of a commitment to Canada.
