Rex Adds Another Boeing 737

Operator: Rex Airlines (ZL/RXA) – Australia Aircraft: Boeing 737-8FE – VH-RYU MSN: 33794 – First Flight: Aug 2003 Flight Number: ZL458 Callsign: RXA458 – Rex Four Five Eight Date: 20/01/2022 Route: Adelaide International Airport (ADL/YPAD) – Melbourne International Airport (MEL/YMML)

Australian carrier Rex has announced the acquisition of another Boeing 737 to enhance its portfolio.

Delivery of another 737-800NG, which will enter service next month, makes it their ninth 737-800NG.

The 737 series has been hugely pivotal in the shift of business model for Rex in recent years following the collapse of Tigerair to offer jet-powered services between major cities such as Melbourne to Sydney.

Rex has competed with well-established and backed carriers on these routes and has enjoyed high passenger loads and on-time performance, making them a favoured choice in an era with much criticism for the national carrier.

Adelaide and Brisbane will now be made possible as a route pairing for Rex by taking delivery of this aircraft. That route will launch on 30 October 2023.

While this will be the ninth 737 to join the fleet, Rex does have further plans to grow with time and permitting the availability of aircraft as it looks to strengthen its domestic portfolio of routes.
