The United States has officially accepted what is widely described as the next Air Force One from Qatar.

The Pentagon confirmed the acceptance of a new private Boeing 747. Still, it reiterated its requirement that this plane be rapidly upgraded to include all the latest safety features to make it fit for carrying a President and other associated parties.

While safety and security measures are integral to the installation process on this plane, emphasis also has to be placed on the jet’s capability of conducting functional mission requirements long into the future.

Moreover, the Pentagon confirmed that it accepts the aircraft from Qatar following all the relevant federal rules and regulations being ticked off, which is vital to consider.

Talk of Qatar offering its own private Boeing 747 flying with the Royal Family came about when considering the many struggles the US has experienced in figuring out the right steps to move forward with its next Air Force One aircraft.

However, given that the jet is now being accepted, it doesn’t mean it’ll be ready to fly as Air Force One in a week, with a significant cost required to improve the plane’s facilities to put it at the highest standard possible.

Even with all the required upgrades to this plane, the costs would still be much less than what the initial deal with Boeing was, which has only continued to increase with time.

The Many Boeing Delays For A New Air Force One

The delivery of a new Air Force One plane has been a persistent talking point over the last few years, and this has affected the US Government and even Boeing, which has had its problems away from this jet to handle.

Chronic delays that have continued to plague the program have also resulted in substantial cost overruns, resulting in Boeing running the program at a colossal loss that is simply not sustainable when so many other parts of its business have been struggling.

For example, in June 2024, it was confirmed that Boeing’s newest Air Force One would see its first flight delayed until March 2026.

In the last quarter of 2023, however, Bloomberg reported that the first power-on of the next-gen 747 to be configured to transport the President was delayed until the middle of 2024.

All in all, the delays have ballooned repeatedly, and with requirements from the US Government, other options have had to be studied. This is where Qatar has stepped in with its offering.
