There’ll be a new Boeing 787 operator shortly, with MIAT Mongolian Airlines looking set to welcome its first next-generation widebody for its fleet.
The company revealed that a long-term lease agreement had been signed with AerCap for two Boeing 787-9s in May of 2023, and now the aircraft will be delivered as soon as this month, with the first unit a day or so away.
The second Boeing 787-9 destined for MIAT Mongolian Airlines is expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2024, and its implications will be significant as the airline looks towards expanding.
MIAT Mongolian cites the COVID-19 pandemic as a critical catalyst for why the business expansion wasn’t possible in recent years, and a fleet downsizing occurred. However, the mission is to increase its operations substantially, and the 787s will play a pivotal role.
Routes such as Frankfurt, Istanbul and Incehon will be targeted with the addition of the Dreamliner, while eventual operations towards the U.S.A are also in the pipeline.
Equipped with 292 seats with 30 in business, 36 in premium economy and 226 in economy, the leap to the next generation widebody will be hard to ignore.
