LOT Polish is continuing with efforts to expand its fleet by confirming it’ll acquire two more 787 Dreamliners.

The airline’s Chief Executive confirmed the announcement as they seek to elevate their long-haul flying to markets. Moreover, the deal was backed by the nation’s Transport Minister.

The aircraft, acquired on a lease, are for the smallest variant in the series, the 787-8, and will complement the airline’s existing commitment to the Dreamliner.

Fleet data indicates the airline has 15 Dreamliners to its name, almost evenly spread across the 787-8 and the 787-9. Two units are listed as parked, meaning 13 units are active based on the most recent fleet data.

As part of this latest leasing agreement, LOT Polish confirms the planes are expected to be delivered in 2026. Interestingly, according to the airline CEO’s comments, these planes remain in service currently with an unnamed airline.

Ultimately, the latest arrangement follows the airline’s recent announcement that it’s seeking new aircraft for its regional flying. The company, therefore, finds itself amid a critical fleet renewal stage.

Acquiring 787s on a lease and next year enable an immediate increase in capacity instead of forcing the airline to wait for available delivery slots from Boeing to open up.

Moreover, with the persistent delivery delays experienced recently, there’s also no guarantee that the airline would get the planes on time if it went directly from the source in Boeing for these two additional units.
