ITA Airways has announced plans to expand its service towards London in the United Kingdom starting in 2024.
ITA Adds Rome To London Flights
The Italian carrier that replaced Alitalia will introduce a new nonstop flight between Rome Fiumicino (FCO) and London City Airport (LCY) from April 1, 2024.
The airline says the Airbus A220-100 will operate 12 weekly frequencies. The newly delivered aircraft makes this route possible.
ITA launched this route to ensure that connections between Italy and the United Kingdom remain ever-present.
Additionally, the carrier has witnessed significant demand across leisure and business customers for travel between Rome and London. The launch of this service will address these demand levels.
Further Expansion Towards London
While the newly announced Rome Fiumicino (FCO) and London City Airport (LCY) service headlines the news release, the airline continues its expansion efforts.
ITA Airways has opened sales for an additional frequency between Milan Linate and London City. As a result of the extra flight, ITA will offer a total of five flights per week.
Set to commence on April 10, 2024, for the summer season, ITA Airways’ commitment to London grows with weekly frequencies tallying 31 between Milan and London.
Similar to the Rome to London route, this additional service will be operated by the Airbus A220-100.
ITA’s Recent Airbus A220 Acquisition
ITA Airways took delivery of its first Airbus A220-100 at the beginning of November, with the aircraft representing a continued move towards fuel-efficient aircraft types.
During the delivery phase, the first unit completed an 8-hour flight between Montreal Mirabel and Rome. Following a brief familiarisation period, the aircraft began scheduled passenger operations.
The Airbus A220 has become popular for airlines seeking to offer efficient single-aisle operations with a capacity lower than the A320neo or 737 MAX. All the while, they do so in a manner that brings maximum efficiency to the respective customer.
For ITA Airways, they now fly the A220-100 and the A220-300. These are the two variants of the series currently offered. The pair work harmoniously to cater to the airline’s day-to-day operations and network thanks to the -300s’ enhanced capacity and the -100s’ capabilities.
