Sydney Airport has made history by announcing that EgyptAir will operate the first flights between Egypt and Australia from 2027.
EgyptAir will begin flights in 2027 from Cairo to Sydney via Singapore, providing the first link between the two countries on a planned route that overhauls the airline’s long-haul network and adds a new direct connection to North Africa.
EgyptAir To Begin Australia Flights
Sydney Airport said that EgyptAir will introduce flights from Cairo International Airport (CAI) to Sydney Airport (SYD) through Singapore Changi (SIN), with flights still subject to final regulatory approval.
The service will provide passengers, for the first time, with fresh but, more importantly, convenient access to Cairo, one of the world’s oldest and most culturally significant cities.
Furthermore, EgyptAir’s access through Cairo will enable onward travel to smaller cities in the country, then deeper into Africa, Europe, or the Middle East through its established network.

The new airline also joins the record 54-airline collective in Sydney, further reinforcing its status as a leading gateway for international airlines in Australia and for new ones looking to expand their services.
EgyptAir’s latest service announcement strengthens ties between the two nations, with New South Wales welcoming the airline’s home to more than 21,000 people and therefore the largest Egyptian community.
A Long Haul Fleet Fit For Sydney
The airline and airport announcement came at the El Alamein Air Show; however, specifics on the service, including the schedules, aircraft types and ticket sales, will be made available closer to launch.
EgyptAir has no problem finding an aircraft suited to operate to Sydney, with a fleet of widebodies offering a mix. Currently, the airline centres the widebody fleet on the Boeing 787-9; however, it also flies the Boeing 777-300ERs and Airbus A330s.
The next-generation Boeing 787-9 is positioned as the newest offering and is often deployed on new routes, especially on the longer Cairo-Sydney service via Singapore.
EgyptAir already flies the 787-9 to established destinations in North America, East Asia, and Europe, and its strong next-generation economics and refreshed cabin interior make it an ideal choice.
The carrier has also become a new operator of the Airbus A350, adding another weapon to its arsenal for the future of long-haul operations and ensuring that a future without the older 777s and A330s can be secured without capacity loss.
