Delta will become the newest airline to serve Melbourne, Australia, with the announcement of service commencing in early December 2025.

The major U.S. carrier will join United Airlines in becoming the second airline based in the country to serve the Australian city.

Delta will use its Airbus A350 to offer flights thrice weekly. It plans to expand as more aircraft are delivered and more significant opportunities to meet demand present themselves.

The service launch will present greater opportunities for customers travelling to the United States and beyond with the ability to access a substantial route network that Delta has curated to serve people from around the world.

Moreover, Delta will compete with United and Qantas, aiming to outdo these carriers and capture market share. This will create a more competitive landscape and provide incentives to fly the company.

Using its Airbus A350, Delta will become the first airline to fly the A350 nonstop from Melbourne to the United States, with United operating its 787 and also, in the past, the 777 from Boeing.

Delta configures its Airbus A350s to seat 275 passengers. This includes fresh Premium One seats, 40 comprising the four-class configuration. While steep in the offering, four classes optimise the space available and give customers more freedom.

Melbourne Airport CEO Lorie Argus said the announcement is a monumental occasion for the airport and Delta to help connect the two locations better with a global name to be seen in Victoria.

The airport reaffirmed the importance of North America, and there’s a sense of pride in the fact that they can help facilitate hundreds of additional seats each week to Los Angeles and beyond through the expansive network.

While the focus is on passenger capabilities, the additional cargo space will allow more high-value exports to travel from North America.

This newly announced service eliminates the requirement for a transfer through Sydney, which only adds to the expenses and can make a trade this unfavourable.

Delta In Melbourne Flight Times

The Delta service to Melbourne departs Los Angeles at 2125 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and arrives in Melbourne two days later at 0815 local time.

The return leg, meanwhile, will depart Melbourne on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays with wheels up for 1025 and a same-day arrival into Los Angeles at 0610, all times local.
