Delta has confirmed an exciting new update to its cargo network across the United States.

The U.S. carrier, in partnership with the Utah Inland Port Authority and Salt Lake City, will invest up to $18 million to develop what it describes as a brand-new, state-of-the-art air cargo facility at Salt Lake City International Airport.

The facility will be made possible through the complete renovation and modernisation of a former United States Postal Service building. It will help replace the current air cargo home at the airport.

For the airline and the city itself, this is set to be a game-changing investment to elevate cargo operations in the region and, subsequently, better serve customers not just in Utah but beyond.

Under current forecasting and permitting, with no scheduling mishaps, this new facility will open in 2027 and feature warehousing, shipping and receiving, ample administrative space with a customer lobby, and refrigerated storage.

With thanks to the investment in refrigerated storage, Delta will have better access to support goods such as perishables and pharmaceuticals, which are also high-value.

Delta is proud to partner with the UIPA and Salt Lake City International Airport to strengthen our cargo operations and better serve our customers in Utah and beyond. Transforming the former USPS facility into a modern cargo hub reflects our long-term commitment to Salt Lake City and the role it plays in our global network.

Peter Penseel, Senior Vice President – Delta Cargo

For Delta, selecting Salt Lake City International Airport was a logical decision, given that the airline is the largest global premium carrier with 270 peak-day flights to more than 100 destinations worldwide, including London and Paris.

The latest investment shows that this partnership between the airline, airport and city will keep growing, with the last 12 months seeing more nonstop routes, additional gates and a state-of-the-art pilot training centre. This means that a new cargo facility is the logical next step to support the investment in infrastructure and local businesses.

This year alone, Delta also added new routes to Lima, Peru, and Seoul, South Korea, as it looks to bring additional connectivity opportunities to the city, and that will continue as its investment grows.

Delta Makes Further Announcement

Away from an investment in freight, Delta confirmed that it would launch new nonstop escapes with a heavy spotlight on Austin moving forward.

From June 13, 2026, the airline has committed to launching new Saturday routes out of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to appease travellers seeking a wide array of markets.

Bozeman, Montana (BZN), will be the first, labelled as the gateway to Yellowstone and the Big Sky Country, followed by Kalispell, Montana (FCA), which provides access to Glacier National Park.

Lastly, Destin-Fort Walton Beach, Florida (VPS), with its white-sand beaches and emerald waters, will also receive connectivity from Austin, with these flights operated by SkyWest as part of Delta’s efforts to continue growing in Austin.

New nonstop service to Cancun (CUN) and Cabo San Lucas (SJD), alongside daily nonstop service to Miami (MIA), also aims to pounce on demand and make it easier to travel from Austin to popular destinations.

These route changes will also be followed by a network of Saturday events across the United States focused on leisure markets, featuring a host of activities. These Saturday routes look to meet demand and offer customers better opportunities to do what they love, either domestically or internationally.
