As Boeing continues to invest hundreds of millions into its business turnaround, including implementing core safety values, there are concerns about how long this will take.

In fresh developments, the Federal Aviation Administration Chief has warned that such a turnaround could take years, permitting no further hiccups.

The timeframe outlined to a member of the US House subcommittee stated that it would take three to five years for the full turnaround to be felt.

This lengthy timeframe takes the turnaround procedure to the end of the latter stages of the decade.

However, despite the significant time taken and still great uncertainty on the future of the planemaker, the belief is that Boeing remains on the correct path moving forward.

Culture will always be a long-term fix. However, Whitaker, the FAA Chief, has confirmed that Boeing is moving positively with much change already being implemented.

The comments from the FAA also follow key airline customers of Alaska Airlines commenting and praising the planemaker’s progress since the beginning of the year.

Boeing still struggles, largely being barred from increasing production due to fears that this would jeopardise the overall progress.

As for when Boeing will be able to increase its output, this remains to be seen; this is the billion-dollar question as airlines continue to adjust their forecasting to cope with the delays.

The barring also follows increased oversight from the FAA, who have been far more hands-on with the manufacturer since the beginning of the year.

Furthermore, the FAA, for the first time, openly admitted that it generally failed to regulate the leading manufacturer, something it’s trying to correct.

The prospect of an up to 5-year overall turnaround is lengthy for Boeing. However, it’s absolutely necessary with Boeing simply not in a position to see this turnaround effort fail with another major incident.
