Azerbaijan Airlines and Boeing have jointly announced plans to expand the national carriers’ long-haul aircraft fleet.
As a result, the operator will acquire eight 787-8 Dreamliner in the coming years to aid further growth plans over the following decades.
The successful development of the country’s civil aviation has become possible thanks to the continuous support and attention of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. The signing of a contract with Boeing for the purchase of modern wide-body Boeing 787 Dreamliners is an important step in modernizing the fleet and increasing the level of AZAL air transportation.
Jahangir Asgarov, president of Azerbaijan Airlines
Azerbaijan Airlines has been a longstanding customer of the Boeing 787 and, in 2022, announced their intent to purchase four 787-8s. This would eventually be finalised to eight aircraft on Boeing’s orders and deliveries website.
Per Cirium data, the carrier has 2 Boeing 787-8s already in service. As such, this commitment to fly a further eight will bring the total to 10. The benefits the airline should see will be significant as they move toward a more efficient widebody operation that previously consisted of A340s and still sees 767-300ERs operating.
