American Airlines Orders Up To 133 Embraer E175s

American Airlines has announced an order for the Embraer E175 with up to 133 units included in the deal as part of a regional fleet renewal.

American Airlines has continued to boost its fleet by completing an order from the final manufacturer in the trio alongside Airbus, Boeing, and now Embraer.

As part of the new contract, the airline has purchased up to 133 new aircraft to address expected growing demand levels.

The contract includes a firm order for 90 E175 aircraft with purchase rights for an additional 43 aircraft to address domestic demand across the United States.

Such a deal is worth USD 7 billion at list price value if options are included in a sizeable contract for the aircraft manufacturer. However, very rarely do airlines pay actual list price value, especially for repeat and long-time customer of American Airlines, who likely obtained a considerable discount.

American Airlines says the aircraft will be kitted with 76 seats in a standard dual-class configuration once delivered. These E175s are expected to be delivered from 2025 onwards.

Embraer Key For Future Flying

American Airlines says that the Embraer aircraft will be hugely important looking into the future for the regional operations it’ll offer customers across the United States.

These dual-class jets are set to drive connectivity and increase reliability and customer satisfaction levels across the board. Thanks to the new purchase, even smaller markets will be within reach as populations grow and cities need better air connectivity.

All 50-seater regional jets currently operated by American are expected to be retired by the end of the decade. As a result, there’s a need for purchases such as these, which, thanks to advances, will bring overall larger capacity across several routes.

Comments From Executives

The E175 is truly the backbone of the U.S. aviation network, connecting all corners of the country. One of the world’s most successful aircraft programs, the E175 was upgraded with a series of modifications that improved fuel burn by 6.5%. This modern, comfortable, reliable, and efficient aircraft continues to deliver the connectivity the U.S. depends on day after day. This represents American’s largest-ever single order of E175s,  and we thank American for its continued trust in our products and people.

Arjan Meijer, President and CEO Embraer Commercial Aviation

Over the past decade, we have invested heavily to modernize and simplify our fleet, which is the largest and youngest among U.S. network carriers. These orders will continue to fuel our fleet with newer, more efficient aircraft so we can continue to deliver the best network and record-setting operational reliability for our customers.
