Alaska Airlines is pulling back from Mexico, with several route cancellations flagged by The Points Guy and schedule filings indicating a shift in capacity for the U.S. airline.
Five of the airline’s services to Mexico will be cancelled; in turn, these aircraft and capacity previously assigned to them will be redeployed to Hawaii as the airline sees demand shift in response to changes in appeal and customer trends.
What Alaska Airlines Is Cancelling In Mexico
According to Cirium’s recent schedule data, several Alaska Airlines routes, typically offered during the winter season and previously scheduled to return for the 2026/27 period, will not be returning.
Las Vegas (LAS) to Puerto Vallarta (PVR) saw its final flight in February 2026; however, it was intended to return for the winter season, which will not happen. The second link from Las Vegas (LAS) not returning will be through to Los Cabos (SJD), where the last flight was in April.
Los Angeles (LAX) will see one route not resume, that one that ended more recently in May, through to Cancun (CUN), a popular market. Further north, San Francisco (SFO) has two routes: one through to Cancun (CUN) and then Loreto (LTO), which is also not slated to return for the winter period.

Under the schedule plans, nearly all of these routes were intended to resume at the end of the year, but will not return for the winter schedule. There is still a commitment to Mexico; however, many services for cities like these will be delivered from other locations within the network.
These Planes Shifted To Somewhere Else
The removal of flights to specific markets frees up aircraft and thus capacity, which can be deployed to other locations in need. In the case of Alaska Airlines’ shift away from Mexico, as it has in the past, it’s pursuing more capacity to Hawaii.
In a statement to The Points Guy, an airline spokesperson flagged Hawaii as a market experiencing increased demand recently. As a consequence, having more capacity available to support this, especially during the holiday period, will be important and hugely beneficial.
With that in mind, the airline is adding flights to four Hawaiian Islands from its California cities, with Oahu, Maui, Kona, and Lihue all expected to see additional service during the winter period.
Alaska Airlines is betting on a busy holiday period, especially as those in the United States look to make the most of the season with a sunny destination in winter. The business has seen outstanding performance in even the popular Mexican segment, where resorts are the primary reason for travel.
Being a key pillar of the West Coast and having taken on Hawaiian Airlines, these decisions aren’t surprising. The exposure and opportunity in the islands’ markets are something that cannot be passed up. While it’ll partially withdraw from Mexico, it remains committed to serving all the aforementioned cities experiencing cancellations, just from different cities in the United States.
