Boeing’s order book could grow considerably more as a massive new aircraft order appears to be in the works.

Thailand’s Finance Minister says work is underway to continue negotiating tariffs with the United States, and a resolution is expected to be reached.

As part of the resolution, a focus on investment in the aviation industry remains at the forefront of the country’s priorities, and the discussions are likely to lead to a significant new aircraft order placement.

Thailand believes that at least 100 existing commercial aircraft registered to the country need to be replaced, so a new aircraft order is required to renew the country’s aviation industry.

Given the discussions with the United States that are expected to be held in the next few weeks, reporting has suggested that dialogue may quickly turn to how Boeing can support the country’s next era of travel, with many airlines looking to grow their business.

Thailand’s companies have been interested in new aircraft deals for some time, but while certain deals have firmed up, others have looked to be in the works. This allows Boeing to add even more support to its programs after a turbulent last half-decade.

Busy Few Weeks For Boeing

Despite political tensions resulting in the constant threat of tariffs, Boeing’s aircraft order growth has been massive over the last few weeks.

Driven by President Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East, several landmark orders for new commercial aircraft were announced, boosting Boeing’s backlog.

Firstly, Qatar Airways was able to cement its long-haul future with a deal for up to 210 new widebody aircraft, from the 777X and 787 families.

The commitment will enable the Doha-based carrier to continue renewing its fleet, achieve significant growth over the coming decades, and ensure deliveries can occur well into the 2030s and beyond.

Meanwhile, Etihad Airways confirmed it would grow its widebody fleet further with a deal for 28 new planes from the 777X and 787 series. These planes are already flying or in their backlog, ensuring commonality remains.

Etihad Airways is amid a massive turnaround. It restructured in the late 2010s and early 2020s after years of spiralling debt, and now it is following its unveiled Journey 2030 initiative.

Deals also included the 737 MAX, with a Saudi Arabia-based leasing company purchasing the jet to develop its backlog and relationships with airline customers.

Despite having had its fair share of challenges across recent history, these newly announced orders and prospective ones represent a hopeful turning point for a planemaker looking to return to the top.
