A Lufthansa Airbus A380-800

Lufthansa is about to refresh its Airbus A380, giving it an arguably more premium feel with the introduction of its new Business Class cabin.

With the planned rollout from mid-April 2026 across select routes from its Munich hub, the ramp-up will occur progressively across four long-haul routes, with this then increasing in due course.

As the German flag carrier looks to bridge the gap with nearby airlines, the focus has been on giving customers a sense of privacy, comfort, and a better experience than in the past.

Where Will The Upgraded A380 Fly?

Lufthansa intends to begin its first phase of Airbus A380 deployment with the new Business Class across specific markets from Munich, with four destinations welcoming the jet initially and a fifth to follow later.

The aircraft will feature on service between the following:

  • Munich to Boston
  • Munich to Delhi
  • Munich to Mumbai (from 1 July, 2026)
  • Munich to Los Angeles
  • Munich to Washington Dulles

With Mumbai expected to see the jet from July, all four other long-haul locations will see the aircraft for the first time from 17 April 2026 through 21 April 2026.

Additionally, across the Northern Summer schedule, the airline will adjust the frequency with which these new aircraft are deployed to their respective cities.

For example, the airline’s Boston flight will see the new A380 product twice a week for the first month, then, from May through to July, this will jump to thrice weekly, with days continuing to alternate during this period.

Lufthansa’s All-New Cabin

The Lufthansa Allegris Business Class has been carefully designed to prioritise not just flexibility but also privacy, with each passenger having direct aisle access thanks to the 1-2-1 configuration.

The seats will be 57 centimetres wide and can convert into a fully flat bed measuring 2 metres long. The airline will also adopt features such as Bluetooth connectivity and adjustable privacy partitions.

The business class, however, is expected to shrink in seat capacity, with the airline seeing a drop from 78 to 68 seats. The first class will be maintained at eight suites, with Premium Economy and Economy class also to feature on the jet.

This is considered by the airline itself a meaningful moment in the ongoing efforts to step up from the older, much more dated business-class product, which has been criticized for its inconsistencies, lack of privacy, and aisle access across many planes.

Customers Share Their Thoughts

Unfortunately for Lufthansa, despite their excitement about the refreshed product, which will be rolled out across the Airbus A380 fleet in the next year, the response has been mixed.

While the business applauds the decision and analysts point towards the investments and desire to change, customers have been highly critical of the lateness in this occurring.

One of the biggest catalysts for the recent downfall of Lufthansa from a brand recognition standpoint and turnaround is what airlines would describe as upgrades that took far too long, something the newest executives at the airline have recognised and are attempting to address.

Others appreciate the investment in the product but feel that the upgrades are considered underwhelming and merely minor changes, when the product could’ve been executed at a higher, more innovative level to benefit users, but wasn’t.
