Finnair has confirmed it’ll return to Canada for the first time in over a decade.
The Finnish carrier will offer three times weekly flights from May 4, 2026, to Toronto, with flights originating in its hub of Helsinki.
Since Finnair last flew to Canada, a lot has happened; in fact, the last time it served Toronto was for the 2015 summer schedule.
Now, the route will be offered across Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays and is part of Finnair’s attempt to increase its coverage of North America.
Canada represents a significant part of the North American region, and reinstating the country as a destination will be crucial for travel moving forward.
Finnair states that it has observed a growing interest in travel to Canada, as well as an increasing number of Canadians attempting to reach Finland and its European neighbours.
Toronto, being the largest city in the country, is also home to the country’s commercial and financial lifeblood.
Finnair is looking to capitalise on these assets that make Toronto what it is to ensure that it can bring strong passenger load factors when service commences.
Finnair North American Demand
Throughout 2025, one of the most pressing concerns has been the trajectory of demand, given the ongoing political unrest in the United States.
In April of this year, Finnair confirmed that, while it was vigilant about the developing situation across the United States, it saw growth continuing at a steady rate and demand remaining solid.

In February, there were increases in the number of passengers carried across the routes, and the summer schedule was still forecasted to see capacity growth across some key cities.
The key for this carrier is to place continued emphasis on diversifying its traffic and not rely strictly on one market.
As a result, confirming a return to Canada during the summer 2026 season will enable the diversification of traffic and the development of its route network moving forward.
