Etihad Airways is gearing up to launch many new routes shortly after another solid performance across September.

During the summer holidays, which reached their end, Etihad Airways saw 1.6 million passengers pass through their aircraft doors across the many services offered.

This substantial figure represents an increase of around 400,000 year over year and reflects the airline’s focus on expansion and rebuilding its network.

At the end of 2024, representing the year to date, Etihad said it was able to carry 13.6 million passengers, which was more than 3.5 million passengers.

Increasing the overall available fleet has also been a focus throughout the 2024 calendar year, which the airline has done successfully.

That said, Etihad Airways has struggled, like many others, to secure the aircraft it wants on time. These struggles stem from manufacturers’ inability to deliver aircraft on time due to many issues, whether supply chain-related or Boeing’s internal issues.

At the end of September, Etihad had increased its fleet by 16 units year over year, reaching 95 units.

By increasing its fleet, the airline has also been able to either increase its services to existing locations or launch new ones. The total number of passenger destinations served has increased from 68 to 76.

However, expansion remains a key part of the airline’s ambitions moving forward, with its CEO announcing that this avenue remains part of its focus.

While new destinations are slated to continue launching, more locations are expected to be added as more aircraft become available shortly.

Etihad is continuing to pursue its Journey 2030 ambitions, which aim to respond to demand and increase the airline’s presence across the Middle East and the broader world through fleet and network expansion.

The Middle Eastern carrier, however, can be encouraged by positive results across recent years and build upon this moving forward as it looks to double its route and fleet.
