An Etihad Airways Airbus A380 arriving into London Heathrow

Etihad Airways has officially re-commenced flying an Airbus A380 to Paris Charles de Gaulle as part of a continued effort to reintegrate the world’s largest passenger plane into active service.

The Abu Dhabi-based airline announced its intent to deploy the aircraft to Paris in April of this year. At the time, Etihad confirmed Paris would be the third city to welcome back the A380 after London Heathrow and New York JFK.

The service will operate as EY31/32, and the aircraft will depart Abu Dhabi at 0240 with a 0730 arrival in Paris. The return leg will depart Abu Dhabi just over two hours later at 0945, with same-day arrival in 1925 back into Abu Dhabi.

Thanks to the A380 deployment, Etihad Airways says the route capacity, which originates from the home of Abu Dhabi, will increase by 31% and complement the 787-9 Dreamliner, which will join the service from 15 January 2025.

These two aircraft both have a three-class configuration. However, the all-important Residence on the A380 is the world’s only three-room suite in the sky and is set to take travellers by storm.

This upper deck suite features the Lobby, a lounge area for first—and business-class guests, and many other amenities that make it one of the world’s most highly regarded upper-class experiences.

The Residence is a perfect example of what the Airbus A380 can offer airlines seeking it. The significant amount of space available means airlines can get creative with the overall space on the A380 and release highly lucrative upper-class offerings.

However, increasing service to France is one of the significant developments from this change, with Etihad Airways now seeing more excellent connectivity towards Europe.

The airline also upgraded flights to certain cities and now offers double daily frequency to Frankfurt, Manchester, Barcelona, Madrid, and Rome, amongst many others.

Etihad Airways is forecasting strong growth across many European cities and is, therefore, looking to build upon the momentum it has created to ensure it can continue advancing.

Etihad Airways Shock A380 Return

Etihad Airways previously believed the A380 had no place within its fleet, a decision prompted by the devastating effects of the global pandemic. However, when demand surged, the company was forced to reevaluate its commitment to the aircraft.

While ordering next-generation aircraft has proved easy, getting these planes delivered on time has been another issue. As a result, Etihad has had to use its available resources to find ways to cope.

Eventually, the decision arose to return the A380 to service to restore capacity on its London Heathrow flights only. This strict decision would see the aircraft return only to one city.

The carrier quickly determined that other significant markets needed a high-capacity aircraft and adjusted accordingly. By the end of 2024, Etihad Airways made it clear the aircraft would be featured across three highly lucrative markets worldwide, with more to follow.
