An Emirates Airbus A380 has spent a week in New York following an encounter with engine complications during a routine flight.
A6-EUW, an Emirates Airbus A380 operating flight EK203 between Dubai (DXB) and New York (JFK) on June 28th, encountered engine issues.
Around two hours out from arrival into the East Coast city, it was reported that the crew were forced to shut down the left-hand engine due to an issue emerging.
The Aviation Herald broke the details in their report, where the aircraft was still able to complete a safe landing at New York JFK, utilising runway 22L. Just before touchdown, an emergency was declared.
Details on the issue remain scarce until complete investigations take place; however, it was engine number 1, a Rolls-Royce Trent 972 engine, that the pilots shut down before landing.
While the aircraft was able to land safely with over 400 passengers on board, given the engine complication, A6-EUW, the A380-800 was then temporarily grounded until inspections could be conducted.
These inspections were completed to ensure the aircraft was in working order to fly back to the airline’s home base, Dubai International, where, if required, further maintenance would be conducted.

Therefore, after spending around a week on the ground at New York JFK and receiving clearance, the plane returned to Dubai on July 5 as a ferry flight.
Thankfully, the aircraft was then cleared to return to service on July 6, 2025. Flightradar24 data shows that A6-EUW has been in consistent service across the airline’s international network.
