Delta has announced it’ll resume daily nonstop flights between New York JFK and Tel Aviv in Israel from June 7, 2024.
The resumption, slated to occur on Friday, follows a period of suspension as the airline looked to monitor the escalating situation in the region.
Delta says it’ll operate the route with an Airbus A330-900, the modern, efficient midsized narrowbody that has gradually increased its role in the Delta network.
The U.S. carrier says service suspension came in October 2023, initially only temporarily following a risk assessment carried out by the airline. As part of this assessment, the airline believed it wasn’t in the best interests of crew and passengers to continue operating in Tel Aviv.
However, days after calls from El Al Israel Airlines’ CEO, who comments regarding other airlines returning to the region, Delta announced plans to recommence flights.
Delta points to strengthening a codeshare partnership with El Al, enabling Delta customers to access El Al flights from other U.S cities to Tel Aviv as a recent initiative undertaken.
The airline says it knows Tel Aviv’s importance to its network. Therefore, its return is expected to add connectivity between the locations that have diminished over the last half a year.
