China Southern is ramping up expansion efforts by announcing plans to recommence flying between Guangzhou and Adelaide in Australia.
Service is expected to commence on December 12, 2024, and thus, recommence almost five years after the route was first suspended due to the emergence of the global pandemic.
China Southern will operate three flights weekly between the two locations, with departures on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.
The Boeing 787-9 will be deployed on the service, with flights arriving in Adelaide in the morning after a 2210 departure the night before from Guangzhou.
Many have applauded service recommencement, as the route will offer greater access for South Australia to the popular Chinese location that focuses on tourism and commerce.
The return of flying also follows the continued rebuilding of demand between Australia and China. Australia was one of the slowest markets to return, but equally, when it did, it was one of the fastest, with people flocking to key cities.
While great emphasis is placed just on the reconnection of Adelaide and Guangzhou, this service will also provide greater access to other Chinese cities for those beginning their journey in Adelaide.
China Southern’s return is just part of the many adjustments to the airlines and flights offered from South Australia, as greater focus is being placed on restoring connectivity following the pandemic.
As airlines return to countries such as Australia, they’ll commit to larger cities such as Melbourne, Sydney, and even Brisbane before venturing to markets such as Adelaide.
While a return to Australia period is a good sign, it can leave markets such as South Australia lacking the required connectivity they once had and providing more significant inconvenience for passengers located here.
As a result, when China Southern returns just weeks before the year concludes and in time for the summer holidays, there’s great optimism about what else Adelaide Airport can achieve in 2025.
