British Airways, battling Rolls Royce Trent 1000 engine difficulties on its 787 fleet, has cancelled more important flights across its network.

The latest cancellations see service suspension through to Abu Dhabi from London Heathrow, which has a knock-on effect, causing significant disruptions.

While the U.K.-based airline will attempt to find ways to limit the overall impact, there will still be difficulties felt across the network.

The route cancellation will take effect from 30 March 2025 to 25 October 2025 and emphasises the difficulties that are being felt and how this problem isn’t expected to be sorted out in the short term.

Engine difficulties have occupied many airlines’ day-to-day operations across the last eighteen months, and British Airways is just one of the many facing the effects.

While some airlines are forced to cancel routes amid aircraft groundings, others have been able to wet lease aircraft to act as backup and thus limit the impact on customers.

British Airways only recently relaunched its services to the capital of the United Arab Emirates, following a hiatus seen across the global pandemic.

Therefore, British Airways’ decision to cancel the route doesn’t come lightly; however, internal studies into determining the best course of action are important to limit impact wherever possible.

British Airways acknowledges the disappointment with this cancellation, as this is not the first route that has been suspended in a bid to try and alleviate pressures on the existing fleet.

However, the carrier knows that such moves are essential to maintain a robust operation in the long term. During the suspension, passengers will be provided other means of getting to Abu Dhabi through nearby cities and different route starting points.

British Airways is working with Rolls-Royce to limit the operational impact moving forward and find ways to improve in the future to ensure that customers and itself are not as affected.

However, this will not have a short-term impact; the carrier is forecasting the challenges to continue as they struggle to find a suitable solution to the difficulties other than axe routes.
