British Airways has announced it’ll return to Abu Dhabi for the first time since the global pandemic.

Abu Dhabi’s return to the British Airways network means the route will complement the existing Dubai service.

A Return To Abu Dhabi

British Airways has had Abu Dhabi missing from its network for four years. Thus, this route is a long-awaited one.

April 20 2024, has been outlined as the day British Airways will resume operations in the capital of the UAE.

British Airways adds that the flight will originate from London Heathrow and operate year-round.

The Boeing 787-9, an ever-popular aircraft that the Heathrow-based airline flies, is slated to operate the service.

The flight will operate as BA72/73, departing during summer 2024 at 2225 before arriving in Abu Dhabi the following morning at 0830.

After an hour and a half on the ground, the aircraft will depart at 1010 before touching down in London at 1520.

Operating To A New Terminal

British Airways also notes that its service towards Abu Dhabi come 2024 will operate into Terminal A at Abu Dhabi International.

Terminal A is slated to open on November 1, 2023. This terminal was previously known as the Midfield Terminal but will officially be known as Terminal A.

For Abu Dhabi, the opening of Terminal A is slated to be hugely important to meet long-term growth plans and is coming after significant delays.

Comments From Executives

Abu Dhabi is a unique destination that is making a very welcome return to our network. With a blend of beach, city and desert, it has everything our customers are looking for in a Middle Eastern trip, and we look forward to welcoming them back on board as we grow our footprint in the UAE.

Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Director of Network and Alliances

We’re delighted to welcome British Airways back to Abu Dhabi International Airport, adding to the growing list of leading carriers set to use Terminal A as their operational base in Abu Dhabi. A luxurious new gateway to Abu Dhabi, Terminal A will open to the public from November 1st, offering state-of-the-art facilities for both passengers and airlines.
