American Airlines has announced a massive expansion of its route network as it prepares for the upcoming Summer 2025 season.
Even as autumn arrives, American Airlines, one of the largest airlines in the world, is already planning new routes for the next summer season.
The carrier has unveiled plans to boost transatlantic flying by adding new routes and flight resumptions to in-demand locations.
American Airlines says it’ll launch service from Charlotte, North Carolina (CLT), to Athens, Greece (ATH), from June 5, 2025, with a Boeing 777-200 operating daily. As a result, by the time this flight jets off, American Airlines will have four daily flights to the popular European holiday destination and greater access across the U.S. than any other airline.
Chicago (ORD) to Madrid (MAD) will begin daily service on March 30, 2025, using the Boeing 787-8. For the first time, American will offer Spain the highest rate of service compared to other U.S. carriers.
However, American Airlines also highlights that the connectivity won’t stop just in Spain with the opportunity to connect onwards with partner airlines further across Europe, the Middle East and even down south to Africa.
Miami (MIA) to Rome (FCO) will begin on July 5, 2025, with a daily service operated by the Boeing 777-200. Next, the airline will mark a return to Edinburgh in Scotland, with daily service commencing on May 23, 2025, with a Boeing 787 from Philadelphia (PHL).
For the summer 2025 season, American Airlines plans to offer more than 70 daily departures to more than 20 destinations across the Atlantic.
The 2025 schedule will build upon an incredibly successful 2024 season. New markets will be launched in response to growing demand and pockets where American Airlines believes it can pounce.
Further route changes will commence in time for the summer schedule, with more daily services to locations such as Barcelona (BCN), Paris (CDG), and Naples (NAP) as American Airlines emphasises the importance of visiting the sites and making the most of the summer season.
American Airlines Focuses On Asia
In the last part of the announcement, American Airlines committed to increasing its capacity for Asia with more flights to Tokyo Haneda (HND), Tokyo Narita (NRT), and Shanghai (PVG) from Dallas Fort Worth.
Lastly, the airline says it’ll operate twice-daily flights to Tokyo Haneda (HND) from Los Angeles, using the Boeing 787-9 selected as part of a commitment to serving Japan’s demand.
