Allegiant will formally close its crew base located in Austin, following reports from Aero Crew News just years after launching it.
The ultra-low-cost carrier’s closure is expected to be effective January 7, 2025, giving employees some remaining time to plan alongside the airline.
Allegiant opened the base in Austin in November 2021, with the company revealing it would invest USD 75 million into the base, with 89 high-wage paying jobs to be based at the American airport.
Furthermore, the airline was to base three A320 aircraft at the location, focusing on linking people to world-class leisure destinations.
Allegiant currently operates in the South Terminal at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). However, this will no longer be the case in the coming years as the airport attempts to improve its land space efficiency and modernise facilities.
However, the last few years and emerging from the global pandemic have presented challenges for Allegiant, most notably battling 737 MAX delays.
These delays, which have continued to balloon out, have also resulted in the airline being forced to cut routes and massively review its operating schedule to try and optimise it as best as possible.
