Airbus has strengthened its A321neo family backlog with an order on the second day of the 2025 Paris Airshow.
The major deal includes the purchase of up to 150 new aircraft, comprising 100 firm units and 50 options that can be activated at a later date.
As for the A321neo, the latest deal cements its importance across the Airbus commercial airplanes division, with this type having successfully worked its way to becoming the most in-demand unit produced.
The A321neo offers Airbus’ customers unparalleled performance, achieved through new-generation engines, sharklets, and a 50% reduction in noise during operation.
Other benefits include 20% more fuel savings and a reduction in CO2 emissions compared to single-aisle planes from the previous generation, such as the A320ceo.

The A321neo has seen sales exceed 7,000 jets, based on data provided at the end of May 2025, and it is already part of the current or future fleets of nearly 100 airlines.
Who Ordered The Airbus A321neo?
VietJet, a Vietnamese low-cost carrier, is the customer of the new purchase, which has been highly touted for some time as the company looks to elevate its fleet.
This Vietnamese carrier is already an all-Airbus operator. Therefore, when it came to renewing the fleet, it was no surprise to many that Airbus was the preferred planemaker for the contract.
VietJet has almost 100 aircraft to its name, and a significant portion of this fleet, its strongest reliance, is based on the A321 program, which comprises 72 planes.

However, 11 of these are grounded and are all for the A321neo, as Pratt & Whitney engine reliability concerns continue to present challenges.
VietJet describes this latest purchase, which will substantially elevate its network, as a significant milestone in the strategic partnership it has formed with the planemaker over recent times.
While the A321neo has encountered struggles in its operational life, mainly driven by the COVID-19 pandemic, supply chain constraints and engine woes, it still, on paper, brings the performance metrics necessary to be considered a success.
