Air Canada has cancelled plans to operate a seasonal Montreal-to-Algiers service for the Northern Summer 2026 season.
The four weekly flights were intended to commence on 1 June 2026 and run through 23 September 2026, with four weekly flights planned from the carrier.
However, under its latest schedule filing change, and as flagged by the reputable aeroroutes.com, Air Canada will instead avoid this by completely canceling it.
AC70 was expected to depart Montreal at 2255, with a 1140 next-day arrival in Algiers; the return flight, AC71, was expected to depart at 1450 and arrive back in Montreal at 1840.
The axing of this route frees up an Airbus A330 for redeployment to other markets where demand has been strong across the Summer 2026 season, but imposes further constraints on Algeria from other parties rather than on the national carrier, Air Algérie.
Air Canada Also Cancels India Flight
Air Canada’s Algiers route cut isn’t the only change being made by the flag-carrier, with adjustments also to its flying towards India for the Northern Winter 2026/27 schedule.
As part of sweeping changes and a unique adjustment to the 787-8 operation, Air Canada will not offer service between London Heathrow and Mumbai from 25 October 2026 through 26 March 2027, as part of a triangular route that typically operates four times a week.

The reduction doesn’t impact services to London Heathrow. The move instead focuses on how Air Canada plans to offer scheduled passenger service to India in the future, and comes in the same week that schedule revisions showed Air India was also pulling back on its own flights to North America.
Network changes are common, as airlines assess demand, route profitability, and more to strike the best balance across their networks in terms of asset utilisation. However, since jet fuel prices have doubled, all locations are under a sharper microscope and will, as such, be cut at a moment’s notice to preserve an airline’s finances.
