Aeromexico has announced it'll launch daily flights to Tampa in Florida from Mexico City on July 1 as part of expansion plans to the U.S.

Aeromexico has unveiled plans to continue boosting connectivity between Mexico and the United States with the upcoming launch of a new service.

From July 1, 2024, the airline will launch a daily nonstop flight between Mexico City International Airport (MEX) and Tampa International Airport (TPA) in Florida.

Aeromexico will deploy its Embraer E190 between these two locations, with the aircraft fitted to include 99 seats, 11 of which are Clase Premier, known as Aeromexico’s premium cabin.

While the focus will be on enhancing connectivity towards the United States, for those coming from Tampa to Mexico, further connections will be possible across the Aeromexico domestic network.

A Delta Agreement At Risk

Additionally, Aeromexico says service has been made possible thanks to their alliance with major U.S.-based carrier Delta. The pair have a close relationship, and their joint venture allows for flights between the two countries.

However, there’s considerable pushback from the Department of Transportation around this joint venture. This pushback, which will see the airlines need to dissolve their partnership by October 26, 2024, has been objected to by Delta.

Comments From Aeromexico

This new service to the Tampa Bay area demonstrates our commitment to offer the best connectivity between Mexico and the United States, hand in hand with our partner Delta Air Lines. As a result, our customers will have more options for leisure and business travel, and Tampa Bay has a lot to offer.

An Important Connection

Tampa becomes the 23rd city the airline serves in the United States, with several other locations already launching in recent months or later. Additionally, Tampa is the third city in Florida alone, with 400 monthly arrivals and departures equating to 75,000 seats.

Aeromexicos’s summer schedule will see departure from Mexico City at 1000 with a 1520 arrival in Tampa. Departure from Tampa will be one hour 15 minutes later at 1635 with an 1815 arrival time back into Mexico. These times are local to their respective cities. Aeromexico says the timings of this schedule will also change when the winter season comes.
