Cathay Pacific, specifically its broader group, will grow its narrowbody fleet by exercising purchase rights for an additional 32 A320neo family aircraft.

Part of an order initially placed in 2017, the commitment to purchase additional aircraft is another crucial step in the carrier’s recovery.

The deal will include Airbus A320neo and Airbus A321neo aircraft, but a specific makeup of the exact deal regarding variants hasn’t been provided.

Through this new purchase, the company has outlined its ambition to fully recover from the pandemic’s effects in terms of fleet by mid-2024.

Set to benefit mainline Cathay Pacific and HK Express, the aircraft will arrive in the group’s operations by the decade’s end.

As we strive towards achieving our vision of becoming one of the world’s greatest service brands, we remain committed to continuously investing in our customer experience. These aircraft feature the latest technological enhancements to provide a quieter, more comfortable and more fuel-efficient journey for our customers

Cathay Group Chief Executive Officer Ronald Lam

Cathay Pacific has a fleet of 151 in-service aircraft, with 38 in storage. Meanwhile, 36% of the fleet is over 12 years of age. This only increases when focusing on the 6 to 12-year bracket, where 41% of aircraft sit.

Cathay Pacific already flies the Airbus A321neo and has been pleasantly surprised by the fantastic performance levels it provides, hence the reason to go back for more.
