The Australian aviation industry will see a further shakeup with the arrival of Virgin Australia’s first 737 MAX in a matter of weeks.
The airline says that its first 737-8 is set to be delivered before the end of June and will eventually be deployed on international flights from Cairns, the focus being Tokyo Haneda.
Virgin Australia has largely been absent from international routes following its entry into administration in 2020 which saw the departure of its widebody fleet and a reduced network.
While Virgin Australia plans to acquire the 737-8, it’ll also welcome the 737-10, the most prominent member of the series. The Virgin Australia fleet primarily consists of 737NGs. The Australian carrier flies 67, with 60 part of the 737-800 series and 7 for the 737-700s. The -800s average age sits at 11 years, whereas, for the -700s, it reaches 13.3 years.
