Discover Airlines is moving forward with the end of its Airbus A330-200 operations as it moves one step closer to completing its fleet renewal.
The airline will see its remaining A330-200 aircraft leave regular scheduled service after 30 October 2026, per AEROtelegraph. The leisure division of Lufthansa Group now states the summer 2027 schedule will see all long-haul routes operated exclusively by the A330-300.
Using the A330-300 not only commits to the larger model within the family but confirms that the smaller A330-200 will not feature in the schedule next year; this, however, is not a surprise.
Discover Airlines previously flagged a retirement of the A330-200s as happening this year, with the leases for the aircraft set to expire in 2026. Instead of renewing the leases, the airline has opted to replace the capacity with further A330-300s transferred from within the Lufthansa Group.
One of the Airbus A330-200s has already departed the leisure carrier’s fleet, and the remaining two units will complete their phase-out in the coming months as fleet simplification and a transition to a higher-capacity aircraft become a reality.
Airbus A330-200 flights will end in October
As the latest schedule update is revealed, Discover’s usage of the A330-200 is expected to continue through to 30 October 2026, with a range of routes from Frankfurt still scheduled to receive A330-200 service.
Frankfurt to Calgary, Fort Myers, Halifax, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Orlando, Philadelphia, Punta Cana, Tampa, Windhoek and the Mombasa–Zanzibar rotation are all expected to still receive the A330-200 until the end of the Northern Summer 2026 season.

The routes that are served by the A330-200 will, by the time the Northern Winter 2026/27 schedule commences, be served exclusively with the A330-300. The airline’s phase-out of the A330-200 still has the chance to see further allocation changes closer to the end of summer, but the phase-out has been long planned.
The absence of the A330-200 moving forward gives Discover Airlines the chance, in the short to medium term, to move towards just the A330-300; while part of the previous generation, it offers more seats for the company into key leisure markets.
While retired, the A330-200 has helped the airline with some of its lower-density long-haul leisure routes where flying can be justified but where demand does not justify the larger A330-300. However, over time and with leases expiring, the cost of retaining both variants, particularly the smaller model, became too high.
The Airbus A350 becomes the future for Discover Airlines
While Discover Airlines is committed to moving towards the A330-300 as its widebody solution instead of relying on two variants in the family, the long-term goal is to transition towards the newer Airbus A350-900.
From 2027, the leisure carrier will begin introducing the model, marking the next stage of renewal. While the type will not replace the A330-300 immediately, it will gradually assume the role of the older A330-300.
The A350-900, already operated within Lufthansa Group, offers lower fuel burn, greater capacity potential and longer range, meaning Discover Airlines will be able to serve its current and future leisure network more efficiently.
The flexibility to serve destinations in North America, Southern Africa, the Indian Ocean, and Asia without compromising range or efficiency is a key driver behind the acquisition efforts.

The type is intended to support growth in Frankfurt and Munich, with newer, more premium-focused long-haul operations. Lufthansa Group has increasingly used its various airlines to allocate capacity according to network needs and profitability and in response to the well-documented struggles at the flagship Lufthansa.
For Discover Airlines, the eventual pivot to the A350-900 commencing next year enables the chance not just to grow its fleet significantly but also to move towards an Airbus A350-only widebody fleet for future flying into the 2030s and 2040s.
