Delta has officially launched flights to Melbourne, Australia, for the very first time, marking an exciting new stage of growth for the airline.
Operated by the Airbus A350, flight DL11 received a water cannon salute following its touchdown in the state of Victoria.
DL11/DL12 are the designated flight numbers and have been selected to honour Melbourne’s extensive tram network. These routes on the network pass through some of the city’s more famous locations.
Melbourne becomes the second Australian city to be served by the U.S. carrier, with nonstop service from Los Angeles. The new route was first announced back at the beginning of February.
Delta hopes that, with the service launch, it’ll be able to provide travellers with more opportunities to travel to the United States and beyond via Los Angeles, thanks to its extensive onward connectivity.
Delta is one of the largest airlines in the world and its network opens up incredible opportunities for trade and travel in both North and South America. This new service will help bring hundreds of extra visitors to our state each week, which will help support Victoria’s world-class tourism, dining and hospitality venues.
Melbourne Airport CEO Lorie Argus
Service will be offered three times a week initially, Melbourne Airport calling the route an essential step in the right direction of their attempts to grow the portfolio of airlines featured as they progress with growth iniaitives.

The Melbourne Airport CEO continued to highlight at events during the inaugural service the importance of adding Delta to the list of airlines present, making it all the easier for Victorian businesses to connect with key trading partners and for Victorian families to make the jump across to North American destinations.
Melbourne Airport is forecasting what will be a record summer for international travel, with a staggering 2.5 million people expected to pass through the international terminal alone in December and January. Delta is expected to play a small role in that with their newest service.
The newly launched service departs Los Angeles at 2105 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, arriving in Melbourne two days later at 0800 local time.

The return leg, meanwhile, will depart Melbourne on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, wheels up at 1010, with a same-day arrival into Los Angeles at 0600, all times local.
Onboard The Delta Airbus A350
With Delta’s Airbus A350-900 operating between Los Angeles and Melbourne, customers can book four cabin products, offering maximum choice.
Firstly, Delta One will be offered; the airline has committed to having 40 of these seats aboard its planes, which come with a fully reclining seat, plus bedding, chef-curated meals, and additional comforts.
Behind this, the airline offers Premium Select, a seat that provides a deeper recline, an adjustable footrest and legrest, and chefs who create a dining experience that elevates the flying experience.

Delta Comfort+ and, lastly, the main cabin of economy are the final options for customers flying aboard the A350. While the vast majority will complete their journeys at the back of the plane in the main cabin, the other options are crucial for customers, revenue, and more.
