Garuda Indonesia has confirmed that a capital injection will reach $1.4 billion.
The injection from Danantara Indonesia, a sovereign wealth fund, will provide the airline with the additional capital it requires; however, there’s a catch.
Garuda Indonesia will ultimately receive $400 million less than it initially expected, with the company confirming it had expected to be around $1.8 billion, which is now coming up short.
While this represents a substantial amount of funds for Garuda Indonesia, they did have a thorough plan for the use of the cash injection: the $1.4 billion would be crucial for maintaining the fleet and increasing funding across Citilink.
However, this also means that the $400 million in additional funds expected to be received were primarily intended to support fleet growth across the business.
With reduced funds sent to the Indonesian company, cuts will be necessary, and this will be reflected in the fleet, which will not see expansion at the expected rate.

For Garuda Indonesia, its financial position has been under pressure since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, with restructuring required to ensure the business can stay afloat in the long term.
The Planned Garuda Indonesia Growth
Garuda Indonesia outlined key growth plans at the end of 2024, when it believed it was primed with a new chief executive officer and brighter days ahead.
As part of the outlined plans, the airline was placing greater emphasis on profitability and, with that, expanding its operations for the first time in quite some time, following years of turbulence.
The hope was that the expansion efforts would align the business with competition and place it in a better position to meet upcoming demand, while subsequently restoring pride as the national airline.
In these reports, Garuda Indonesia said it wanted to scale its fleet to 150 aircraft over time, with a strong focus on jet acquisitions to support the international network.

Garuda Indonesia said that while new markets were a strong focus, there was also significant interest in increasing service to existing locations, which are seeing demand increases. Still, the business is not primed to respond due to a lack of available capacity within the airline’s current structure.
Now, what the changes in investment at the airline mean remains to be seen; however, it is natural that the funds that were to be associated with fleet expansion, more specifically, are now not available to the business.

It’s actually bad news to Indonesia tax payers
Make it 100%. Private airline Graruda. Open bank accounts for foreign visiter at Batam, Bali, grant 6 month visa, increase $ limit like Singapore to 20,000. Visator keep dollar tie to waist, pillow. Learn from Hong Kong, Singapore, London, New York. Foreigner can not put car, facorty, homes in suitcase and fky to Paris, London. Too many obselete laws. Now asking again for visitor to visit immigration offices, corruption will creep. Make things online, no contact with human. Less corruption. Less govt. Interfearances.
Financial restructuring didn’t mean anything if doesn’t follow cultural change radically. Business strategy total changes not only profit oriented, extremely understand revenue exponentially sharp climbing.
Not because of covid but because of the corruption inside the company make them what it is today.
Absolutely correct
Go to some of the older management and get back some of the money they have stolen over the years and you would not have to borrow a cent…,I used to be a frequent flyer with Garuda but not regular flights and got too expensive to make up for lost Money in the past..
Funny how an airline with the highest ticket prices can still take a huge loss. Isn’t it concerning?
Within indonesia there is a price collusion between airlines. Otherwise how can one explain that a flight Jakarta-Bali or Yogya-Bali cosr the same than to flying overseas from JKT? Low cost is a mirage in this country.
In prices Garuda is way out if reach to most
Garuda Indonesia airline It is a rotten company owned by the Indonesian government whose top officials are all corruptors.
