An Uzbekistan Airways Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner

It has been a busy day for Boeing at the C5+1 Summit in Washington, DC, with another order finalisation.

This order finalisation comes from Uzbekistan Airways, which has converted options into a firm order for an additional 787 Dreamliners.

Uzbekistan Airways will take on another eight units, bringing the order book for the widebody aircraft to 22. This now plays an integral role in the airline’s future operations.

Once these aircraft are delivered, Uzbekistan Airways aims to leverage its capacity to grow its international network in the coming years, with a specific focus as demand grows.

The 787 has already proven itself within the airline as a cornerstone of long-haul operations, and now, with a new contract, Boeing and the carrier are confident this will mark the next step in elevating travel across Central Asia.

Uzbekistan Airways was the first operator of the 787 in Central Asia, and since then, the aircraft has helped connect the airline with Europe, Asia and the United States.

However, there’s a great deal of excitement about what the 787-9 will be able to do for the business, primarily driven by its extended capacity compared to the smaller -8 model.

We value our nearly 30-year partnership with Uzbekistan Airways and will continue to support their growth strategy as they further connect the region and world. With its fuel efficiency and operational flexibility, the 787 Dreamliner will help Uzbekistan Airways expand into new markets, connecting more travelers to their rich culture.

Brad McMullen, Boeing senior vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing.

Uzbekistan Airways is specifically looking to leverage the 787-9’s capacity on international markets where demand is continuing to rise, with deliveries of this model set to coincide with expected increases.

Boeing 787 Order Considered Part Two

While Uzbekistan Airways’ latest announcement that it will firm up options for more Boeing aircraft has received much attention, for the carrier, this is essentially part of broader efforts to elevate the business.

At the beginning of 2023, Uzbekistan Airways confirmed the purchase of new Airbus aircraft in a bid to focus solely on the single-aisle division, with the deal including 12 aircraft across the A320neo and A321neo.

New aircraft such as the 787-8 and 787-9, and Airbus’ commitments, will help substantially modernise the business and give the company the best chance to improve its bottom line while raising customer satisfaction levels with more modern jets.

Simplicity can lower operating costs, reduce maintenance complications, and reduce crew costs while making schedules easier to curate and adhere to, all elements that Uzbekistan Airways is betting on for the future.
