Boeing has scored an important contract for its 787 Dreamliner in a record-breaking commitment.
Air Astana has placed its largest-ever order for the widebody program, with 15 of the Dreamliners to be purchased. The additional 787-9 jets are expected to substantially elevate the airline’s operations moving forward.
The order, which still needs to be finalised, will be the largest single aircraft purchase from the company and will build the fleet up to 18 aircraft when all is said and done, aided by three deliveries from lessors.
These Boeing 787s will help bring Air Astana into a new era of operations, as the 767 currently serves as the widebody aircraft connecting Kazakhstan to multiple markets worldwide, including Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
However, by adding many more of these aircraft, Air Astana says the 303-seater widebody will represent a significant capacity jump over what is currently offered while also enabling more seats in markets served by the 767 fleet.
Additionally, Air Astana is targeting the deployment of the Dreamliner to North America; this number of planes represents a significant fleet upgrade and a step in the right direction toward greater network flexibility.

Boeing airplanes have been integral to Air Astana’s operations from the beginning and we’re proud the 787 Dreamliner will support Central Asia’s growing importance in aviation. Air Astana’s decision to expand its fleet with the 787-9 aligns with its vision to boost operational capabilities and efficiency while elevating its service offerings.
Paul Righi, vice president of Boeing Commercial Sales for Eurasia and India.
The capacity increase will be more than noticeable, as the current Air Astana fleet is dominated by the 767-300, which carries the bulk of the high-capacity operations.
Therefore, by adding the 787 to the fleet and the sizeable nature of 18 total units, this will represent more than half of the airline’s current active fleet and help develop international connectivity from Kazakhstan moving forward.
In the press release, the CEO of Air Astana, Peter Foster, said that, as a business, they’re strategically committed to positioning Central Asia on the world stage over the next 10 years, and that comes with the requirement for growth.
The Boeing 787 has been selected after thorough studies as the best possible option to help develop the airline and this sector of the aviation industry.
Boeing 787 Latest News
News of Boeing welcoming another commitment for the 787 Dreamliner, which strengthens the backlog, follows reports that prospective production increases are progressing.

The manufacturer noted that 787 production has been showing signs of stabilisation across recent times at 7 units, which is encouraging after years of turbulence that have gone on to impact the program.
With stabilisation, the hope is that monthly production rates will increase in the coming years, and the expansion will focus on the North Charleston facility, with a $1 billion investment to meet production targets.
Boeing is even confident that before the end of the year, it can reach an output rate of eight units a month, every little step being so crucially important for the manufacturer in its road to recovery.
This minimal increase is all the more important with Boeing’s long-term goals of hitting 14 units per month and even considering the jump to eventually 16 out of its Charleston plant, which would represent a record.

Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner continues to be a highly popular option for airlines looking to evolve their widebody flying, and as a business, the American planemaker is aware of this with a healthy backlog.
While the last half decade have presented their fair share of problems Boeing is commited to moing forward in a positive manner, and with that jumping up production rates and creating quality products that do not have faults for customers who have been patient and equally loyal through all the challenges.
