TAAG Angola Airlines has entered a new era, taking delivery of its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
This unit is the first of four expected to enter the airline business and help elevate long-haul flying while adding truckloads of efficiency that have not previously been seen.
The new aircraft arrives just before the country’s Liberation Day on February 4. Its new livery has attracted significant attention.
TAAG Angola describes the new livery as something that embodies the heritage of Angola and the visibility of the Planaca on the tail and the engine.
This Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a -9 model. It is registered as D2-TEQ and has been named Naimbe. The plane even has a unique decal at the front, near the cockpit window, celebrating the 50th anniversary of independence in 2025.
TAAG Angola wants to develop its global network in the future. The carrier will enhance European services and create routes into Asia and North America.

The deployment of the Boeing 787 will be crucial to making these expansion plans possible. In addition to one more 787-9, two high-capacity 787-10s will be delivered to TAAG to help cater to routes with increased demand.
The Fun History Of TAAG Angola’s First Boeing 787
While some aircraft are produced and then head directly to an operator and fly across multiple decades, sometimes the journey to an aircraft delivered to an airline can be more complicated.
Initially, this plane was registered as N8572C. It wore the Riyadh Air livery, acted as a demonstrator plane, and visited Saudi Arabia on several occasions across many other locations to promote the birth of the new airline.
Briefly, the jet was registered then as JU-1789 with MIAT Mongolian Airlines; however, it is now with TAAG Angola Airlines and registered as D2-TEQ. All these switches happened quickly because this unit was only produced less than three years ago.
