Etihad Airways has announced it’ll begin flying its Airbus A380 to Mumbai to celebrate 20 years of flying to India.
The world’s largest passenger plane will be deployed over four months, commencing September 1, 2024, through December 31, 2024. This is in response to the growing demand for a popular route between Abu Dhabi (AUH) and Mumbai (BOM).
Etihad Airways began serving India with nonstop flights to Mumbai, which commenced on September 26, 2004, and since then, the relationship between Etihad and the country has deepened.
Now, Etihad Airways offers connectivity between its home in Abu Dhabi to 11 cities across India. Furthermore, this is expected to grow as demand rises in the country.
India’s importance as a key market has arguably never been stronger; Etihad Airways committed to increasing accessibility by launching a Hindi website.
Etihad Airways became the first international airline to open up endless possibilities across its network for a new demographic by conducting an initiative like this.
Furthermore, sponsoring the Chennai Super Kings and other avenues has allowed the company to spread its wings in India.
To celebrate the 20-year partnership, Etihad Airways is expected to unveil even more exciting developments in the region. The celebration is considered big, and the deployment of the A380 to Mumbai for four months is described as just the first announcement.
While Etihad will only send its flagship A380 to Mumbai for four months, it reaffirms that the aircraft is hugely important.
Interestingly, this all follows a period in which Etihad Airways didn’t believe the A380 had a future in its operations while the pandemic decimated travel demand.
However, now in the mid-2020s, it would certainly appear that Etihad and its customers cannot get enough of the aircraft, and its highly regarded capabilities are perfect for markets with truckloads of demand.
