Embraer continues to mount a challenge to become a true alternative in the aerospace sector as it published its second-quarter results and revised backlog.
The Brazilian manufacturer said it delivered 47 planes in the second quarter of the 2024 calendar year, an 88% jump from the 25 delivered one year prior.
These significant jumps are all part of the planemaker’s ambitions to become more of a force to be reckoned with as it continues to evolve the products it’s producing.
One of Embraer’s more stellar results has been the continued development of its backlog, which has exceeded all expectations.
Embraer says its backlog has grown more than 20% annually and extends to USD21.1 billion, representing a seven-year high as its commercial aeroplanes division secured new commitments.
In May, Embraer celebrated the delivery of its 1,800th E-Jet alongside commitments from Mexicos’s state-owned airline and the delivery and launch of operations at Scoot for the E190-E2.
The E2 continues to be a solid performer for Embraer, as they pitch the aircraft to more customers than ever, thanks to its capabilities and favoured delivery schedule.
Embraer knows that other single-aisle programmes, such as those from competitors of Airbus and Boeing, have seen considerable backlog levels. While this indicates success, it also removes the ability for airlines who have yet to secure orders to get planes on time.
The Brazilian planemaker believes it can solve this problem by pitching its E2 series to more customers who will eventually adopt the type.
That said, Embraer has, in recent months, denied reports that it would launch a rival to the A320neo and 737 MAX. These initial reports came from The Wall Street Journal, citing sources that Embraer would move forward with a next-gen narrowbody to obtain further market share.
Embraer, however, stated that its focus remains on the successful aircraft portfolio it has already tirelessly worked to create. Furthermore, it wants to continue building the portfolio of popular E2 jets and pitch this as a true alternative.
