WestJet has announced that it will commence service between Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) in May 2025.
Enhancing Transatlantic flying is pivotal to growing Nova Sctoria’s global presence and strengthening connectivity and tourism.
WestJet says it’s committed to offering six weekly flights, with service to commence officially on 29 May 2025.
Moreover, this represents the first time WestJet will offer service between Amsterdam and Halifax. It is a historic moment for the Canadian carrier, which is looking only to continue evolving its international network.
In comparison to its schedule across 2024, transatlantic seat capacity from Nova Scotia will now increase by 97%, a commendable jump.
Strengthening our direct connections to Europe enhances tourism, creates economic opportunities, and makes it easier for our residents and businesses to connect with the world. This new route will bring more visitors to Halifax, support our local economy, and further position our city as a gateway to Atlantic Canada. We look forward to welcoming travelers from Amsterdam and beyond to experience everything Halifax has to offer.
Andy Fillmore, Mayor of Halifax.

While WestJet’s new service is highlighted thanks to a longstanding codeshare arrangement and relationship with KLM, customers can connect to other European destinations.
Codeshare arrangements such as these are crucial for adding value to customers of both carriers and making travel journeys more seamless with checked baggage and single-ticket options available.
WestJet will use its 737 MAX jet on service between Halifax and Amsterdam, highlighting the flexibility the single-aisle aircraft can provide, whether through short-haul domestic operations or international legs across the Atlantic Ocean.
For Amsterdam Schiphol, the ability for passengers to fly nonstop to nonstop means this becomes the sixth destination offered to Canada. This represents an exciting new way for passengers to explore broader Nova Scotia and its offerings.
