After announcing a codeshare agreement, Virgin Australia and Air New Zealand are officially back together.
The agreement marks a return of collaboration for the two airlines, and great new benefits are set to impact customers travelling between Australia and New Zealand.
The most notable inclusion is Virgin Australia customers can book Air New Zealand flights into key markets such as Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch.
Simply put, the ability to codeshare on these flights will complement Virgin Australia’s existing services in the popular holiday destination of Queenstown.
The collaborative efforts continue through Virgin Australia, which states that Velocity Members can earn and redeem points across the Tasman and have access to lounges for eligible members.
The reigniting of this collaboration is said to have been a long time in the making, and thanks to the approval, it is now possible.
These collaborative efforts require some time for review to ensure that they will not adversely impact consumers concerning higher airfares or negative ramifications on competition.
Virgin Australia says it knows the importance of offering reliable travel between Australia and New Zealand, and partnering with the latter flag carrier can significantly enhance this service.
The rekindling of the relationship is set to make the short hop across the ditch even more accessible, and Air New Zealand says Aussies and others will get a better taste of what the country has to offer.
The two airlines pitched elements such as loyalty programmes, choice, and greater value for money as leading factors in this endeavour.
