United Airlines Adds New Routes & Boosts Flying

United Airlines has announced three new routes to commence in 2024 and is also boosting its flights to key markets in Asia and Europe.

United Airlines has announced three additional international destinations and four new flights as part of its continued efforts to expand globally.

Ultimately, the several updates mean that the airline has the largest and most diversified international network among U.S. airlines, with well over 100 international destinations across 67 countries.

Through persistent network expansion, the airline has also become the largest in several segments, and it is not even the flag carrier of the specific country it serves. Notably, its aggressive expansion into Australia allowed it to overtake Qantas and provide better connectivity from critical cities.

New Routes

From October 24, 2024, and in time for the winter schedule, United says it’ll launch a service between Newark and Marrakesh in Morocco. Through this connection, United will have the most flights to destinations in Africa from the metropolitan region of New York.

Additionally, the airline prides itself on being the only airline to connect the United States to this city. It will do so with a thrice-weekly service operated by the three-class Boeing 767-300ER.

An Asian expansion is on the cards with United to offer service between Tokyo Narita and Cebu in the Philippines from July 31, 2024. The route will see the airline the only U.S. carrier serving Cebu with daily flights on the 737-800.

The flight is expected to significantly benefit Americans looking to venture to the Philippines, with the location available from Tokyo and thus easily reachable for travellers across the United States.

Lastly, United says it’ll, for the first time, service Medellin in Colombia from Houston with daily flights operated by the Boeing 737. This service is expected to commence on October 27, 2024, and will complement already existing flights to the region from other cities and Houston.

Flying Increases Coming Soon

While these new flights steal the show, United Airlines says it’s planning to beef up its operations worldwide this year while also rebuilding its mainland China operations.

Four weekly flights from August 29, 2024, will depart Los Angeles for Shanghai, resuming and complementing existing Shanghai flights from San Francisco. United says this service will become daily by the end of October.

Meanwhile, United will add further flights to Hong Kong and Seoul. A second daily flight to Hong Kong from Los Angeles will launch on October 26 to boost overall connectivity.

United says on October 25, 2024, they’ll offer year-round twice, daily flights between San Francisco and Seoul. A core focus of the flying increases is the Asian market, which continues to recover and rebound to pre-pandemic figures.

Lastly, United will boost Transatlantic flying with a second daily service from May 23, 2024, on a Boeing 757-200 flight from Newark to Porto in Portugal.
