Thai Airways has transformed its fleet over the last decade, moving from older, inefficient aircraft to relying more heavily on next-generation planes.

However, removing aircraft isn’t as easy as dumping them in the recycling bin, and Thai Airways has been fighting an uphill battle to sell the aircraft it has removed.

The sale of these aircraft has had its fair share of problems, however, primarily driven by the fact that the aircraft being shipped off are not just old but incredibly unfavourable in current market conditions.

In the past, concerns have been raised about the ability to get these planes to the company that potentially would purchase the goods, proving difficult.

Ultimately, these planes have been for sale for some time. In recent updates, the CEO of Thai Airways International stated that 12 aircraft remain for sale, including 6 Airbus A380s awaiting delivery following a contract for sale.

The sale of aircraft primarily involves Boeing 777s that have been removed from the fleet for other, more modern, and efficient aircraft types.

However, Thai Airways has stated that it’s negotiating with interested parties and hopes to conclude a deal to ship the aircraft and relevant assets by the end of the year.

By selling these aircraft, Thai Airways points to the fantastic income it can generate and passes on valuable parts or aircraft to companies that need them.

While Thai Airways has removed these aircraft from its day-to-day flights, it’s still committed to efficiently managing its assets until they are completely removed from the company.

12 units remain. However, that figure was far greater in the past as previously Thai Airways retired and sold aircraft such as the 747 and A340, previous staples of the company’s plans.

Selling these aircraft also aligns with Thai Airways’ overall plans to rebuild its business and focus on streamlining and generating more income wherever possible, a perfect initiative highlighting the progress.
