Lufthansa Cargo is continuing its attempts to overhaul itself as a business and chart a sustainable course for growth by announcing fundamental plans for the future.

As part of these plans, Lufthansa is set to invest some 600 million euros in Frankfurt Airport, with the mission to modernise the airport’s freight facility by the turn of the next decade.

Through the investment, Lufthansa believes it’ll make Frankfurt Airport the most modern airfreight hub in Europe. The airport is vital for many different types of freight and unique movements.

The LCCevo project, as it has been designated, represents a drive for growth and excellence. However, the project must be done sustainably, which is at the forefront of the freight operators’ expectations.

While investment will be focused on freight operations, the idea of the future is to have greater infrastructure to allow for growth into future decades.

Furthermore, as the Minister of Finance highlighted, the investment is an example of how sustainable and modern infrastructure can play such an essential part in a country’s future.

Germany will look on a whole, thanks to the development of Lufthansa Cargo, cement itself as a key leader in its class and, as highlighted by Lufthansa executives, become a leading hub for cargo, special arrivals, and more.

Frankfurt Airport has always been critical for the broader country, with great economic strength. As a result, it has been a no-brainer to invest such significant funds into the continued development of the base to foster future economic growth.

Some benefits of moving away from purely freight transportation include the jobs that will be created thanks to the development of so many new facilities.

Lufthansa Cargo expects Frankfurt to become a more favourable location for future jobs. Investment will be key to developing supply chains and supporting them in the long term.

Part of the focus is not to interrupt operations while construction works occur. Lufthansa labels this work as essentially open heart surgery, with great cooperation required to ensure smooth operations can continue in the long term.

Therefore, construction is being conducted in various stages and sections so that daily operations can continue and no negative impact can be felt.
