Luqa, Malta - February 27, 2026: KLM - Royal Dutch Airlines Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner (REG: PH-BKD) arriving in Malta for servicing.

KLM is preparing to replace the Boeing 777-300ER with the Boeing 787-10 on its long-haul service from Amsterdam to Vancouver.

The changes show an attempt to offer a more tightly calibrated schedule across the Canadian gateways and will see adjustments during some peak summer travel months next year.

For the period of 26 May 2027 through 17 July 2027, the airline has made schedule adjustments, with the Boeing 787-10, at least for the moment, tentatively filed.

KL681 operates daily, departing Amsterdam at 1520 and arriving in Vancouver at 1555 on the same day; these times are local to their respective cities.

Meanwhile, KL682 will depart Vancouver at 1750, arriving the following morning at the airline’s home hub, Amsterdam Schiphol, at 1205. The changes flagged by aeroroutes.com.

Both flights offer enough time to connect at the respective endpoint, either within the KLM short-haul network or, in the case of North American routing, via partner airlines.

The Aircraft Change For KLM

The Boeing 787-10 change between Amsterdam and Vancouver ultimately reduces seat capacity, but it also involves placing a newer aircraft on the route.

For the airline itself, the 787-10 also offers lower operating costs and improved fuel efficiency, giving it the chance to see better performance in one of its key long-haul markets.

KLM has a strong Boeing 787 fleet, the airline carrying 28 of this family in its operations, with 13 of the -9 model and 15 of the high-capacity 10 variant. This is also the youngest, with an average age of 4 years.

KLM In Canada

Any changes to service to Vancouver will always be a focus, as the airline serves the country well and the city of Vancouver is an integral part of its many offerings.

Alongside flights to Vancouver, the airline offers flights to Toronto Pearson, Calgary, Edmonton, and Montreal, with partner airlines further deepening connectivity within the country.

Leveraging the West Coast of Canada, specifically, and its strategic geographic position serves as a useful link for connecting passengers across the broader SkyTeam Network, whether through Western Canada or the Pacific Northwest.

The Boeing 777-300ER has generally been the workhorse on this route, as the business prioritizes stability and a means to continue protecting yields, with the key jet across the airline’s operations.

The return of international networks year-round, let alone during peak summer demand, isn’t uncommon and is part of a trend of more airlines pivoting to newer aircraft on more seasonally driven routes.
