STARLUX is preparing for delays in the delivery of upcoming Airbus aircraft, which will impact its operations moving forward.

The Taiwanese-based carrier confirmed through its Chief Executive Officer, Glenn Chair, with Bloomberg News that delays were being forecasted.

STARLUX is an all-Airbus operator and therefore relies solely on this planemaker to provide aircraft that will fly across its business.

Given the nature of the airline and its youthful presence, the carrier has leveraged this to have one of the youngest fleets across Asia, which benefits its expenses and boosts efficiency.

However, alarm bells are now ringing, as growth expectations are being reduced, similar to other global airlines, due to the slower-than-expected delivery of new planes.

STARLUX states that while capacity is expected to grow year over year, it will not increase at the initially scheduled percentage point.

The company initially intended to achieve a 50% growth in capacity compared to 2024; however, it is more likely to reach a figure of 20-30%.

The significant reduction is due to the decrease in expected deliveries, which are expected to occur in 2025. While planes such as the A330neo and jets across the A350 family will be delivered, they still find themselves four widebodies short.

Given that STARLUX is young, its network has still not fully developed to the level envisioned. According to the airline’s future route map, over the next few years, many new markets are expected to be launched. However, these are only possible with the addition of new planes.

STARLUX Is Not Alone

While STARLUX is seeing its new aircraft delayed and finds itself short on Airbus aircraft, it would not be alone in feeling a similar sense of frustration.

Airbus has confirmed that it’s already informing all airline customers that deliveries for the remainder of 2025 will be subject to multi-month delays.

These delays throw curveballs to airlines such as STARLUX and many others on a global scale, with their planning. Failure to take planes on time means retirements cannot occur for older planes, routes can’t launch, and much more.

What remains worse is that Airbus doesn’t see this problem easing in the next couple of years, which will force carriers to adjust their growth forecasting and not capture demand as quickly as initially intended.

Airlines such as STARLUX will remain in close communication with Airbus to chart the best course for success moving forward.

In a worst-case scenario, airlines may also seek compensation for the damages to their business caused by the delivery delays or leverage frustrations to negotiate better terms.
