Indigo Orders 500 Airbus Aircraft

Indigo has placed the most significant commercial aviation order in history at the 2023 Paris Airshow with a commitment for 500 Airbus A320neo family aircraft.

The deal will include many aircraft across the family, including the A320neo, A321XLR and many more.

The long-rumoured deal will see deliveries commence in 2030 and conclude in 2035. As such, there will be 100 deliveries of Airbus aircraft per year to a single airline during this period.

Through the latest commitment, the total number of Airbus aircraft on order from Indigo sits at 1,330 aircraft, a staggering amount and puts Indigo as the largest A320 customer too.

A deal also eclipses Air India’s latest commitment for aircraft as the Indian aviation industry continues to outdo one another to compete.

India is one of the hottest markets in the aviation industry, and as such, airlines are continuously looking to expand and find ways to become more efficient.

Indigo currently has 279 aircraft in active service. Therefore with the sheer number of aircraft on order, its future operations will grow massively, with more aircraft readily available to meet demand and be deployed on services.

While an order for the A320neo, Indigo has long been interested in acquiring a widebody aircraft to boost its international network. However, an order for such a plane is yet to be confirmed, but the A330neo and 787 are being cited as potential future acquisitions.
